NATHAN SPOOR - NIGHT VISIT

Nathan Spoor - Night Visit

Nathan Spoor employs a technique known as Suggestivism to achieve a meditative state from which he makes contact with a “world” located in the unconscious. From this state he emerges and shares his journeys with paint.
In the piece above I can’t help but be reminded of my favorite bedtime book as a child, “Goodnight Moon”. It’s got that feeling, empty space with a hint of the other. Spoor’s work is not always such. His imagery tends to operate in a self sustained symbiosis.
Nathan Spoor, along with Dan May and Brandi Milne will be showing at Copro Nason, the show opens June 7th.

TATE MODERN - STREET ART

Blu - Tate Modern

This is too much. I’m becoming very emotional. I think that I might Krylon.
The Tate Modern deserves the respect of the art world. Most of us have matured in an environment that shuns graffiti. The current show “Street Art” at the Tate is a revelation. They have commisioned 6 very talented artists to drop large scale works on the side of the building overlooking the Thames. Sixeart, Os Gemeos, Faile, Nunca and Blu have all participated in this show of cooperation and acceptance. Britain, thanks for “getting it”.
Now in the US, which major museum is going to step up?

Amy Stein - Untitled Frog

“New American Fables”, a solo exhibition from Amy Stein opens June 12th at the Robert Koch Gallery in San Francisco. The large scale photographs to be displayed are from two bodies of the photographers work.
“Untitled (Frog)”, shown above is an example from the series “Halloween in Harlem” in which brightly costumed children are juxtaposed against the gritty urban environment of NYC.
The photograph pictured below is from the “Domesticated” series. “Watering Hole” contains the essence of this work that strives to place animals in coexistence with the sprawl that is suburbia.

RICHARD PRINCE - SPIRITUAL AMERICA

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Richard Prince - Nurse of Greenmeadow

Richard Prince loves to reclaim imagery. Photographs, cartoons and advertisements appear as blank canvases to this renowned manipulator. His latest retrospect, “Spiritual America”, at the Walker is a must see for any fan of contemporary art. The exhibition was organized by the Guggenheim in New York and is on view through September. Still plenty of time left to get a good deal on a flight.

It has been a lot of fun setting up the gallery. Something that we had been working toward for a long time. We really weren’t sure what to expect when we took NOWhere from bytes to atoms. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. There is a real scene developing here in Colorado. Yes, Colorado. An astonishing amount of people that enter our gallery demonstrate a strong knowledge of contemporary art coupled with a quest for progress. Thanks are due to all. Collectors online and in person. The musicians that have graced our stage. To all of the artists that have and will show. Thank you.
