The economic downturn has left most of the country feeling a little flat. A large inflated sign of power slumped in the corner might not make anything better but it can’t hurt. In trying times, change occurs and we’ll need to be ready. For his part, the artist has constructed an “apocalypse bunker” in New Mexico and has been appearing in the gallery from there via live video feed.

“Surviving the End of Your World,” is a display of repurposed goods. The halted commercial backdrop to these pieces exclaims a transformation of value and a new sense of what may constitute as raw material.

Mike and Maaike, ATNMBL, 2009.

It is inevitable that we will, one day, relinquish authority of our steering wheels to computer control. Mike and Maaike have used this knowledge as a starting point for their latest project. Upon entering the ATNMBL you will be asked, “Where can I take you?” Your reply will be the sole responsibility for the commute.

When the duty of driving is dismissed it will be crucial to rethink the interior space of the transport. Mike and Maaike have considered the possibilities and restructured the task of diving into the pleasure of riding.

Craig Koch is a recent transplant from Arizona. He creates these tight little sculptures mainly from disused electronics and wire. He classifies his interests as post-apocalyptic tribal.

Heather Dalton is an accomplished painter that impressed us with her work as part of the “Better than Yesterday” project at the gallery. She is making some nice hand pulled silkscreen t-shirts that we couldn’t resist.

These exceptional works from both artists will be available in the gallery this weekend and online beginning Wednesday, May 6th at 3pm EDT.

The exhibit is in celebration of an annual local oddity known as “Frozen Dead Guy Days”. It seems that a deported Nederland resident made an attempt to cryogenically freeze the body of a deceased relative. Grandpa, as he is affectionately known by the sleepy mountain town, remains on dry ice in a Tuff Shed in the hills. Each year the masses flock here to enjoy festivities such as a hearse parade, polar plunge and coffin races.

Thirteen diversely talented artists round out this themed show. We requested that the artists contemplate what the world might be like when Grandpa was “Thawed Out”. Various visions of the future are represented ranging from the absurd to the sublime.

NOWhere Limited is in the heart of the party so we will be offering sober reports from the (drunken) front lines. Friday evening the drumming of Greg Willson will fill the gallery. On Saturday at 4:30pm the Dead Bubbles will once again be turning it up to eleven.

It’s quite an experience to travel at 270mph on the ground. They do it all the time in China. Thanks to Winding Road Magazine for posting this video to give us all an approximation of the experience.

Asimo, the long lived robot from Honda continues to evolve. Recently, Asimo conducted a special session of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. I can remember when this thing could hardly walk. Now it runs! See the video below.

Singularity appears to be approaching at an accelerated rate. The Japanese firm, “Kokoro” claims that it takes about ten seconds for recognition to occur and that soon they expect to extend that time to ten minutes. This is going to change the way that we interact with each other in dramatic fashion. “Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that you were real.”
