SYLVIA JI – HAUTE EPOCH
April 9th, 2009“Haute Epoch”, an exhibit of twenty-four new paintings from Sylvia Ji opens this weekend at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.
Sylvia Ji is erroneously lumped in with a recent retro trend in painting that is content with beauty as concept. Ji’s work extends beyond the capture of alluring females with beautiful technique.
She is riding a line between elegance and repulsion that awaits historical classification. To her credit, it would seem that the artist herself is uncertain where this path leads. It is this spirit of exploration that separates fine art from decorative design.
