UNVEILED – NEW ART FROM THE MIDDLE EAST

April 20th, 2009

There are still almost three weeks left to take in “Unveiled: New Art from the Middle East” at the Saatchi Gallery in London. This is the second exhibition at the newly christened seventy thousand square foot Duke of York’s HQ building.

The work displayed was selected from nineteen of the most exciting artists in the region. It is a sprawling exhibit with art created from a diverse selection of media. The sculptural elements from the show like pieces from Kader Attia (above) and Diana Al-Hadid (below) represent as particularly powerful paradigms.

The complex nature of world politics has limited the exchange of contemporary thought with this area of the globe. It is refreshing to encounter art originating from a different history that developed a unique mindset.
