MR. BRAINWASH – ICONS
February 16th, 2010Valentine’s Day marked the opening of “Icons” the latest show from Mr. Brainwash. The line was around the corner for the opening at the 15,000 square foot building in the meat packing district. Special thanks to Alanna Sarti for taking these excellent photographs.

NIce Pictures. Icons is HUGE! I love the stuff made of tire and the huge boom box downstairs. The building is really cool with the pink paint dripped into the basement.
Hey Fred, lol at saying he copied you. Do you think you’re the first guy ever to put monroe hair on someone? Banksy did that with Kate Moss some years back. And some other artist have before that.

FRED, SHAME ON YOU
you forgot WARHOL.
and btw, Warhol himself, one of the most well known artists of the modern era, copied his way to fame when he created the tomato can prints…..
And OBEY doesn’t copy? Have you ever seen any Communist propaganda from China? Most of Shep’s stuff is just re-appropriated from that era.
before you speak your ignorance, think about what your saying.

You might want to check out Banksy’s film Exit Through the Gift Shop….

Mr brainwash is banksy. Do you not get it. This is his way of being able to show work in galleries and make money under the radar. He makes the work not as good on purpose so that he can trick people. I know this as fact. I am a artist close to both shep and banksy.

P-
You’re like the masked magician that goes on TV and reveals the secrets. First it was “who’s Banksy” then it was “who’s Mr. Brainwash” maybe now it’s “who’s poopie”. Ultimately it doesn’t matter. The real question is, if you are so tight with Banksy why attack him?

Am I the only one who thinks this art is just a bunch of repackaged hackery? We’ve seen it all a million times before, and done much better.

Hey Swell, Repackaged hackery is the best kind of hackery.

I love the MBW concept. It brings to life all the flaws in modern society beyond what’s articulated on a canvas through an intangible demonstration.
Branding can influence what we think and also what we believe is the experience. We know that people are so influenced by hype that they’ll believe food tastes better, cigarettes smoke better and art IS better.
Are we merely sheep? Who’s the biggest joke? Is it art? Is it society? Is it Banksy/Obey? Is it MBW? If art is a visual representation of where we are today – what does this say about the world we live in? I think this art show nails it sadly… I hope Banksy and Obey do something good with the money.

MBW’s only redeeming trait is the irony in the whole phenomenon- MBW has brainwashed a huge segment of the population! But I agree with Matt-Watch Banksy’s movie…
